The aggressive batting of Karim Jan and Mohammad Nabi and three wickets of Rashid Khan defeated Zimbabwe by 45 runs in the second Twenty20 International match in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Jannat scored a blistering half-century in 53 balls in 38 balls, while Afghanistan scored a stunning 193–5 win with the help of Nabi’s 15-ball 40. Ace spinner Rashid scored 3-30 runs in the 17th over with all three wickets. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 148 to give Afghanistan an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match series.

Afghanistan won the first match by 48 runs. The third and final match is again in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Zimbabwe lost the first ball of their run chase to Tanashe Kamunukhumwe and slammed captain Sean Williams 11–2 for nine runs in the second over.

Ryan Berl (40) and Richmond Mutumbami (21) shared a 62-run partnership for the sixth wicket to give Zimbabwe renewed confidence.

Nabi, who also took 2-20, broke the stand while Rashid carried out the attack until the 10th over, sacking Burl to extinguish Zimbabwe’s hopes.

Earlier, Janat scored his fifty after losing his partner Rahmanullah Gurbaz for nine with the help of four sixes and three fours.

But it was the prophets who gave momentum to the innings, and struck four sixes in a vigorous innings. His three sixes came off spinner Brandon Mavut, with 23 runs.

Usman Ghani also hit a brisk innings of 49 runs in 34 balls and shared a 102-run partnership for the second wicket.

Paceman Blessing Muzarabani was the Zimbabwean bowler with 2–44.
