IRDAI has asked insurers to make special arrangements to facilitate eligible category among their policy holders for getting vaccinations in a group or individually.

In an interaction with all the insurance companies, IRDAI said that all the insurers are requested to join this national effort.

IRDAI issued instructions to insurance companies on March 3, 2021 to facilitate the vaccination program for its policyholders through a communication.

In the letter, IRDAI asked them to provide immunization facilities as per the choice of policyholders either in a government or private facility, either as a group or individually to facilitate eligible category among their policyholders.

“First, insurers can create awareness about vaccination among policyholders through effective communication via SMS or email. Secondly, they can help the policyholder to get vaccinated in an orderly manner as a group and Can arrange in advance through pre-slot slots. ” The letter said.

Third, policyholders may be reminded for a second shot of the vaccine on time.

IRDAI has asked insurers to adequately publicize the process of registration for the vaccination program and special arrangements for policyholders, if any, so that more people can be vaccinated.

In addition, similar arrangements can also be made for all employees of the insurer and all agents to make them immune to COVID-19 infection, IRDAI said.

The regulator has asked the insurance companies to inform them about the action taken in this case at the earliest.

Free vaccines are provided to those going to government hospitals for vaccination. While designated private hospitals charge it at a government-specified rate.

The instructions do not apply to AIC and ECGC – two specialized state-owned insurance firms that cater to crop insurance and export credit insurance, respectively.
