People want a check dam of bridge between Nochiam and Srirangam to Kollidam

Manchanallur, a rapidly developing suburb, is hardly a few kilometers from the Kaveri and Kollidam rivers. Yet there is a shortage of drinking water in many parts of the constituency.

In Manchnallur Nagar Panchayat, water is supplied on alternate days, and in some places once in five days. The ubiquitous ‘If elected, I will find a solution to the water issue’ tops the election promises of all the candidates who contested here in this assembly election.

Manchnallur constituency was formed in 2008 after delimitation exercise by linking some areas from Thotiyam and Mussiri assembly constituencies in 2008. Agriculture and allied activities are the main livelihoods of the people here. But Manchanallur and S. For Kannanur (Samayapuram) Nagar Panchayats, all are villages. Irrigation has been assured on about 2,500 hectares on the banks of the Kollidam River and the rest of the area is dependent on seasonal rains.

There are 50 modern rice mills in and around Manchallur, direct employment to about 5,000 laborers and indirect employment to 10,000. The millers dry about 1200 tons of paddy a day and produce about 600 tons of single-boiled rice. But power supply fluctuations have forced mills to reduce production.

The installation of the substation at Manchallur to stabilize the power supply has been pending for mill owners for a long time. It is served by the Samyapuram substation which was established fifty years ago. “We need about 420 volts to run the mills. But we only get 340 volts. Only one dedicated substation at Mannachanallur will resolve the issue, ”says M Sivanandam, president, Mannachanallur Taluk Rice Mill Owners Association.

During his visit in December 2020, Chief Minister Edappadi K. The millers rationalized this representation and electricity rates, among Palaniswami’s other demands.

Bus stand, college

Voters here need a proper bus stand, Government Arts and Science College and a check dam across the Kollidam River between Nokiyam and Srirangam.

AIADMK has won elections in 2016 and 2011.

AIADMK, former minister N. Paranjothi has been fielded in place of posted Parameshwar Murugan, while DMK has a Perambalur educationist. Kathiravan has been fielded. The AMMK, Makkal Neidi Maim and Naam Thamizhar Katchi have also fielded candidates.

Banking on the welfare schemes of the AIADMK government, Mr. Paranjothi is reaching the voters. “Every family has benefited in one way or the other during the last five years. The AIADMK manifesto has also gained the trust of voters.

A veteran of politics, Mr. Kathiravan believes that coalition arithmetic and anti-incumbency will work in his favor.
