Talking to journalists in Nandurbar, Mr. Thackeray appealed to the people to defend against coronovirus without any fear.
A day after Maharashtra’s highest one-day spike of 25,833 COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday that lockdown is an option, but he trusts people to follow their own norms.
Talking to journalists in Nandurbar, Mr. Thackeray appealed to the people to defend against coronovirus without any fear.
The COVID-19 situation has become critical as the number of new cases on Thursday surpassed the first highest increase that was recorded in September, he admitted.
“I see lockdown as an option. But I am confident that the people of the state will voluntarily cooperate (and follow the COVID-19 norms) as last time, ”he said.
When the epidemic started last year, there was nothing to fight the virus, Mr. Thackeray said.
“But now at least we have vaccines as a shield. The priority now is to ensure that everyone is vaccinated. People should come forward to take the vaccine.
The central government has assured that there will be no shortage of vaccines. There are some instances where a person caught the infection after vaccination, but such cases are not “life-threatening”, the chief minister said. “Everybody should get vaccinated without any fear,” he said.
