The government on Wednesday approved an agreement between India and Fiji for cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Fiji in this regard.

The MoU between India and Fiji provides for cooperation in various fields, including the promotion of joint ventures between the private sectors of the two countries.

The agreement also provides for the exchange of research personnel, scientific experts, experts and technical trainees; technology transfer; Development of infrastructure for agricultural development; Development of human resources through training of officers and farmers by organizing seminars and workshops.

The two countries will also work together to promote investment in marketing and value addition / downstream processing of agricultural commodities.

The Ministry of Agriculture of India and Fiji will promote capacity development in all areas of agriculture as well as direct trade of agricultural products through market access. They will also jointly plan and develop research proposals and execution of research projects and programs.

The MOU also provides for the establishment of an Indo-Fiji Working Group and any other form of cooperation to deal with phytosanetic issues.

The statement said, “Under the MoU, a Joint Working Group (JWG) was formed to set procedures and plans and plan programs of cooperation through the implementing agencies of the two countries to achieve their objectives. Will go. “

The working Gorup will meet once every two years in India and Fiji.

This MoU will be effective from the date of its signature and will remain in force for a period of five years.
