Madan Mitra, who was fielded by the party from Kamarhati assembly constituency for the upcoming assembly elections, was arrested by the CBI recently for his alleged involvement in the case, and later granted bail.
Senior TMC leader and former West Bengal minister Madan Mitra was thrown out in front of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Kolkata in connection with the investigation into the Saradha chit fund scam on Friday.
Mitra, who was fielded by the party from Kamarhati assembly constituency for the upcoming assembly elections, was earlier arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the case, and later granted bail.
“I was asked by the ED to appear before my officers today. I will continue to cooperate in the investigation.
The agency investigating the money-laundering aspect of the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam has also sent notices to former IPS officers Surjit Kar Purkayastha and Rajat Majumdar.
Sources in the ED said that both have been asked to be placed before the agency officials next week.
Former West Bengal DGP Majumdar was earlier arrested by the CBI in a chit fund case. The Calcutta High Court later granted him bail.
Purkayastha, currently the State Security Advisor in West Bengal, apparently attended several meetings organized by the now defunct company. The Saradha group is said to have defrauded thousands of investors, by which fraudulent schemes are being run.
