Marshals will take action in Mangaluru from Friday to monitor wearing of masks in public places and maintain social distance and to impose fines on violators.
Talking to reporters after receiving the second dose of Kovishield vaccine here on Thursday, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner KV Rajendra said that about 30 homeguards would work as part of steps to stop the spread of COVID-19. “In addition to working on checkposts, they will visit places where people gather and impose fines on people who don’t wear masks and don’t follow social distance norms,” he said. The use of marshals in other parts of the district will be considered at a later date.
Mr. Rajendra said that he would hold a meeting with the Homeguard District Commandant, the head of the district unit of the State Disaster Response Force and other officials on Thursday evening to fix the functioning of the Home Guard.
