Road Safety World Series: “Competitive Spirit” of Sachin Tendulkar Hells India, West Indies Legends

Veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday praised the “competitive spirit” of the Indian and West Indies giants in the Road Safety World Series T20. Tendulkar-led Indian giants made it to the finals after beating West Indies by 12 runs on Wednesday. 424 runs were scored in the game between the India and West Indies legends, but Tendulkar said that the competitive spirit that the 22 men showed was out for them. Tendulkar tweeted, “Over 424 runs in this match, I think it was the competitive spirit with which today’s teams play. All 22 men put in a great effort.”

The match between Lara and Tendulkar was the most awaited last year in the opening match of the tournament, although both played horns last year.

Chasing 219 runs, the Windies scored 206 for 6 in India’s 20 overs. Needing 24 runs off 12 balls, Indian seamers R Vinay Kumar and Irfan Pathan helped India win.

Earlier, Tendulkar’s half-century and Yuvraj’s entertainment had an unbeaten 49 off 20 balls – India’s score of 218 for three in 20 overs with six sixes and a four.

Apart from important innings of Tendulkar and Yuvraj, Sehwag (35), Yusuf Pathan (37) and Mohammad Kaif (27) also contributed with the bat. India were reluctant to launch an attack on Sehwag’s ball, with left-arm spinner Suleman Benn attacking the ball through cover.

This was no stop for Sehwag who was in an attacking mood while Tendulkar took his time but Sultan’s Multan was out in the sixth over.

Later, Tendulkar – continuing the last game – scored another half-century. He had a 53-run partnership with Kaif before being sacked later by Ryan Austin.

Promoted

For a century, Tendulkar snatched the best delivery of Best, which went to Kirk Edwards, who came up with a brilliant effort at the deepest point. Yuvraj and Yusuf later destroyed the Windies attack in the death overs with some big hits.

The stylish south-paw struck six sixes in the final two overs. In the 19th over, Yuvraj saw leggy Mahendra Nagamuttu off the rope for four hits, while the next two came in Sulaiman Benn’s over. Despite those big hits, Yuvraj was stranded at 49.
