Nikhat Zeren of India ruled the world champion Ekaterina Palceva to enter the women’s 51 kg quarter-finals at the Bosphorus Boxing Tournament in Istanbul. The Asian Championship bronze medalist, Zaren, made a big upset on the second day of the tournament on Wednesday when he outscored the Russian boxer 5–0. The Indian boxer will face another tough match as she will face Kazakhstan’s two-time world champion Kazabay Nazim in her last eight matches.
In addition to Xeren, the 2013 Asian champions Shiva Thapa, Sonia Lather and Parveen also won their respective categories to advance to the quarter-finals.
Thapa got better than Kazakhstan’s Smagulov Bagatyov 3-2 in the men’s 63kg division.
World Championship silver medalists Lather (57 kg) and Parveen (60 kg) defeated local favorites Surmanelli Tugsenj and Ojol Esra 5–0 in their respective women’s second round matches.
However, it was curtains for Duryodhana Negi (69 kg), Brijesh Yadav (81 kg) and Krishna Sharma (+ 91 kg) as they lost their preliminary matches.

On the third day of the event, six Indian boxers will contest their respective quarter-finals.
Rather, Zaren, Parveen and Jyoti (69 kg) will appear in action in the women’s section while Thapa and Solanki will present the Indian challenge in the men’s competition.
