Rayna Bhagya Lakshmi was unanimously elected as the 12th mayor of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) at the first council meeting held after the announcement of the municipal election results here on Thursday.
Belam Durga was unanimously elected Deputy Mayor.

The selection of YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) Ms. Lakhmi and Ms. Durga for the positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor has dashed the hopes of some leaders.
Mayor Aspirant Capt. Punyasela, a second-time corporator and former YSRCP leader who won from the 34th Division, was not called by the presiding officer to take the oath.
Ms. Bhagya Lakshmi has been selected as a corporator from the 46th Division which was reserved for the BC Women’s category. This is his first term as corporator. As per official information, his educational qualification is class X and he is a businessman by profession. She comes from Chittinagar area.
Ms. Belam Durga won in the 15th municipal ward. He is also a first time corporator and businessman, graduating as an academic qualification
