Chennithala accused of being fake voter in voter list

Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday alleged voter identity fraud.

In a complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Mr. Chennithala said that a 61-year-old woman had come into possession of at least five voter ID cards in Uduma constituency in Kasargod. She could use the card to vote multiple times. The photo on the card was the same. However, the names and addresses were slightly different.

Mr. Chennithala said that Congress workers saw a similar pattern in all 140 constituencies in Kerala. There seemed to be a conspiracy at the top level of the government to create fake voters to illegally swing the election in favor of the ruling front.

He alleged that Congress workers attacked 4,506 fake voters in the Kazakattattam constituency. The number of fake voters for Kollam is 2,534, Thrikaripur (1,436), Koilandi (4,611), Nadapuram (6,171), Kuthuparambu (3,525) and Ambikapuzha (4,750).

Mr. Chennithala said that he suspected active connivance of the officials responsible for preparing the electoral list. He was loyal to the ruling front.

In the past, fraudsters used voter ID cards to house dead persons or voters for fake voting. Now, the method of operation has changed. More than one voter ID card is given to the same voter.

Mr. Chennithala demanded a comprehensive investigation into the allegation. He said that fake voters should be removed from the voter list before the day of voting.
