The Election Commission (EC), in response to a letter written to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday, said that the Election Commission should not be kept in the dock for “perceived proximity to any political entity” and if If this is so, then the CM continued to maintain this myth, it was unfortunate.
In a reply to its letter on Sunday, West Bengal Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain, in a letter to Ms. Banerjee, stated that the Commission had met representatives of the All India Trinamool Congress on four occasions in Delhi and Kolkata.
“If it is said by the honorable CM that the commission should meet political parties, it is only an attempt to dissolve the institution of the commission repeatedly and with impunity. The Commission maintains the position that they would not like to stand in the dock for perceived proximity to any political entity, however, if the Honorable Chief Minister persists and is known for attempting to perpetuate this myth. This is singularly unfortunate, and it is only up to the honorable CM to believe why he is doing this.
Last week, Ms. Banerjee was injured while campaigning for the ongoing assembly elections in Nandigram. The Election Commission had concluded that the then Director of Security, Vivek Sahai, had failed to stick to the approved route plan; Prevent frequent changes in the plan; To persuade Z + to protect is Ms. Banerjee, traveling in a bullet-proof car; The letter states that he was persuaded to remove the seat belt and open the door and stand on the pedestal.
It states that the Chief Secretary, in consultation with the DGP, appointed IPS officer Gyanwant Singh in place of Mr. Sahay.
“The Chief Secretary must have obtained approval / advice on file as Honorable Chief Minister and Home Minister before issuing the order for posting of Shri Gyanwant Singh. If the Government of West Bengal and you feel skeptical about the appointment of Director Security, the Commission has already accepted this arrangement.
