The exercise to introduce a separate “agricultural budget” with emphasis on welfare measures for farmers has started in Rajasthan in the 2021-22 state budget as announced by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The new document will provide innovations for the benefit of farmers.
Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria said in the state assembly that the agricultural budget will fulfill the dreams of the farmers, while there will be adequate financial provisions along with steps to provide new facilities in the agriculture sector. He said that organic farming will also be encouraged.
The Assembly passed budgetary demands of ₹ 3,756 crore for the agriculture sector and ₹ 1,829 crore for the Animal Husbandry Department after debating the demand for grant from voice.
Mr. Kataria stated that the agriculture and allied sector has registered a growth rate of 3.45% in 2020-21 despite adverse conditions created by the COVID-19 epidemic. He said that more than 1.30 lakh farmers are engaged in organic farming, the department is working to provide agricultural equipment on rent to farmers.
The minister said that a new scheme of ₹ 23 crore was made for the protection of camels and an additional 750 1,750 crore had been provided in the last two years in the Farmers Welfare Fund. He called upon the farmers to adopt modern methods of agriculture and conserve rainwater for irrigation.
