“Since 2014, there are 157 medical colleges in various stages of development in different parts of the country. These include 24 in phase 1 and 24 in phase 2 and another 75 in phase 3, which were announced recently, ”the minister said in response to the supplement during the question hour.
“Apart from this, till 2014 there were 50,000 medical college seats in the country and after that, in the last six years, 30,000 additional medical college seats have been created. More seats will be added with the establishment of these new colleges, ”he said.
Mr. Vardhan said that the National Medical Commission is also assessing the total number of required medical colleges and seats in the country, stating that the government will formulate its policies accordingly.
So far 22 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have been approved under the Modi government. Of these, 16 AIIMS are in various stages of implementation for the last seven years, ”he said.
“The Health Minister said that the Narendra Modi government approved 75 medical colleges in various states in its second term. These are preferably in aspirational districts and areas where the most deprived people live and where there is no medical college in the private or government sector, ”he said.
All these 75 medical colleges have been finalized and notified, the Minister said, adding that the Center supports 60% of the budget spending on these colleges.
In response to another question, Mr. Vardhan said that no AIIMS has developed in Karnataka and a request has been made by the Chief Minister and leaders of the state, stating that the Ministry of Health and Finance is working in this regard. Have been.
The Union Minister said in a written reply, “Under Phase Three, four medical colleges with a capacity of 150 MBBS seats have been approved in Chikkamagaluru, Haveri, Yadagiri and Chikkaballapura in Karnataka in 2019-20.”
He said that medical colleges to be shared between the Center and the state government in the ratio of 60:40 have been approved at a cost of ₹ 325 crore.
