The Health Ministry has warned Maharashtra to plan for the “worst case scenario” with sufficient lead time, as the state continues to report the maximum number of new daily COVID-19 cases and deaths across India. It has also instructed to restart the death audit to support public health action and reduce mortality.
Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said in a communication to the state earlier this week that despite the available health infrastructure being adequate, Maharashtra needs to look at vaccine hesitation among front-line workers, “if the trajectory goes upward Is, then their services will be required as seen now. The state should also accelerate vaccination with co-morbidities and the elderly. “
