He received a “bribe” through SSB for selection of officers and other ranks
The CBI on Monday conducted searches at 30 locations in 13 cities in connection with a case against 23 people including five lieutenant colonels, two majors and others for their alleged involvement in the army recruitment scam.
A case involving 17 military officers and personnel has been registered on a complaint from the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defense alleging that a bribe was received for selection of officers and other ranks through the Services Selection Board (SSB) .
“Searches were carried out at 30 locations in Delhi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Bareilly; Kapurthala and Bhatinda; Kaithal and Palwal in Haryana; Jaipur; Guwahati, Jorhat and Chirgaon in Assam and Visakhapatnam, ”a CBI official said.
In the FIR, Nayab Subedar Kuldeep Singh of Base Hospital in Delhi Cantt has been identified as a middleman. He reportedly sought the assistance of Army Air Defense Corps Lieutenant Colonel MVSNA Bhagwan, who is currently on a study leave in Visakhapatnam, to help some SSB candidates.
The accused also accepted a bribe from Havildar Pawan Kumar of the Army Service Corps Center, Bengaluru, for the selection of his son Neeraj Kumar, who cleared the SSB at the National Defense Academy in December 2020.
Lieutenant Colonel Bhagwan is charged with being the mastermind. It has been alleged in the FIR that Major Bhavesh Kumar, Group Testing Officer posted in Kapurthala, accepted the bribe for selection of 10-11 candidates. His wife Devyani, father Surendra Kumar and mother Usha Kamat have also been included in the FIR.
Surendra Singh, a lieutenant colonel of 31 SSB, Service Selection Center (North), Kapurthala, has been accused of taking bribe for the selection of 10-15 candidates. He reportedly received ₹ 1 lakh for the selection of Neeraj Kumar. Bhupendra Bajaj, brother-in-law of army officer, has been made co-accused.
The FIR also names Lieutenant Colonel YS Chauhan of 6 Mountain Division Ordnance Unit, Bareilly; Lt. Col. Sukhdev Arora, Joint Director of Directorate Recruitment in Delhi; Lieutenant Colonel Vinay of Selection Center (South), Bengaluru; And accused Lt. Navjot Singh Kanwar of 12 Grenadiers (Assam).
It is alleged that Lieutenant Kanwar bribed Lieutenant Colonel Bhagwan and Naib Subedar Singh for his selection. The FIR mentions that ₹ 10 lakh was given through Naib Subedar and another accused, Pragati Singh.
Two cadets Hemant Dagar and Indrajit have been accused of bribing Major Kumar for selection.
Havildar Pawan Kumar of Army Service Corps Center, Bangalore, to name in this case; Major Amit Fagna of Field Hospital in Delhi Cantonment; Naik Parvinder Jeet Singh of the Medical Board Section at Base Hospital; Soldiers Kuldeep Singh and Rohit Kanwar; And Havildar Rajesh Kumar and Harpal Singh.
The Ministry of Defense stated in its complaint that there was sufficient evidence of the culpability of the designated civilians and service personnel. The racket was discovered after an input received by the Army on 27 February.
