The DMK on Thursday signed an agreement with Viduthalai Chiruthigal Kachi (VCK), in which it was allotted six seats. The deadlock over seat-sharing with the Congress continued, with the DMK not changing its proposal for 18 seats and the national party did not return for talks.
The CPI is likely to sign an agreement with the DMK for six seats on Friday. CPI (M) and MDMK are yet to reach an understanding with the DMK.
VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said, “Even though the high level committee of our party has expressed dissatisfaction over the allocation of six seats, we have kept in mind the threat posed by the Sanatan Sena. We do not want the secular vote to be divided. Our decision was shaped by the vision and future of Tamil Nadu politics. “VCK will contest on its symbol.
The ruling AIADMK is believed to have decided to leave Vijayakanth’s DMDK on Friday and finalize agreements with the BJP and TMC (Moopanar). An official said that the speech of DMDK Deputy General Secretary LK Sudhish, ridiculing AIADMK, did not go down well with the leadership of the ruling party.
The number of reserved and general constituencies to be allocated to VCK will be decided after discussion with the DMK leadership, Mr. Thirumavalavan said.
Stressing the need for secular parties to stay together in the DMK alliance, he said that the Left parties and the MDMK had the right to take decisions in their own interest.

He said that DMK should not win. This means that he is particular about AIADMK and AMMK coming together. If the AIADMK is strengthened, it means that the BJP is also getting stronger. This land of social justice will not be good for Tamil Nadu.
CPI Secretary of State R. Muthrasan told reporters, “We had a cordial meeting. We will put the proposal for approval at our party meeting. The agreement will be signed tomorrow [Friday]”
When asked about the complexities in the talks, he quipped, “Even at a wedding, it will take some time to talk about a bride and groom.”
The meeting will be held on March 6 in the CPI (M) ‘s Secretariat. General Secretary Sitaram Yechury will be present. He said, ‘We are yet to receive a call to talk to the DMK. There has been no change in DMK’s offer of six seats and this is not acceptable to us.
The second round of talks between DMK and MDMK were inconclusive.
