Myanmar’s people should not suffer: Shringla

The people of Myanmar should not suffer under the current conditions in that country, Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla said on Monday. Addressing a think tank program here, Mr. Thingla said that India considers this situation “a matter of deep concern”.

“Our development and humanitarian efforts in Myanmar are aimed at socio-economic development. We need to continue these efforts in the interests of the people of Myanmar. We feel that people on the ground should not be harmed. India will continue to monitor the situation closely and will engage with similar countries to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of the country, ”Mr. Shringla said while delivering a speech at the Anant Aspen Center.

The Foreign Secretary said that India had been ‘stable’ in supporting “democratic change” in Myanmar and said that the democratic gains made by Myanmar should not be curtailed. “The international community must work together and give their meaningful support at this critical juncture, so that the people of Myanmar do not suffer. We are working constructively in the UN Security Council to facilitate balanced outcomes that can help resolve the situation, ”Mr. Shringla said.

The remarks illustrate the state of the Indian crisis that has already killed dozens of civilians during the military elections that began after winning the last election under the leadership of the National League for Democracy. Regarding the neighborhood, the Foreign Secretary said, “India’s destiny is related to its neighborhood.” Accordingly, the neighborhood remains our primary diplomatic area. This is first and foremost among our foreign policy priorities. ”

He said that India aspires to have “good neighborly relations with Pakistan” and is committed to addressing the issues, bilaterally and peacefully, if any. However, he said that Pakistan has a responsibility to create a “favorable environment”.
