Senior leader of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti HM Rudraswamy said that writer and activist Anand Teltumbde is in jail due to false allegations, but no MP raised his voice against the injustice done to him.
He spoke at a seminar held in Hassan on Sunday in memory of DSS founder BV Chandraprasad Tyagi.
A Kannada edition of a book on the Maha Satyagraha written by RB More and Mr. Teltumbde was released.
“The government has imprisoned Mr. Teltumbde after branding him a Naxalite. However, none of our MPs opposed it. We have our representatives, but they have lost their voice, ”he said.
Referring to the book released on the occasion, Mr. Rudraswamy said that BR Ambedkar led the Mahad Satyagraha for access to drinking water. “This is equivalent to the Salt Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.
Recalling the struggles of Shri Chandraprasad Tyagi, Shri Rudraswamy said that the Dalit movement under the leadership of Hassan was strong. He attracted many young leaders to the movement and led the struggle and was successful in providing land to the Dalits in Hassan.
The event was organized by the Dalit Hakugula committee of Hassan district unit. The program was attended by committee chairman MG Prathvi, artist KT Shivprasad, DSS leader HK Sandesh, Erappa, CITU leader Dharmesh, and others.
