A book may be published for a myriad of reasons; To get out of the writer’s longing, to fulfill a literary dream, or just to make a few bucks.
Second edition of the book Veenju (Wine) was published on Sunday for a very good reason. Kochi-based Vayanpura volunteered with the idea of his big friends from Palluruthy to publish 1,000 copies of a book valued at fund 200 to fund the treatment expenses of his author Thankyou CV.
The 60-year-old, an active presence in social work and literary circles, especially during the 80s, now faces increasing treatment expenses following kidney failure.
“He underwent bypass surgery two years ago after heart disease. It was a drain on our limited resources before things got worse when he was diagnosed with kidney failure ten months ago. Now a week Has to undergo dialysis twice and the collective monthly treatment expense, including medicines, is over 40,000, ”his wife Barbara K.V.
Mr. Thanachan was active in relief missions at far off places in the state since the 2018 deluge.
Veenju It was first published a few years ago and contains writer’s memoirs with litterateurs from literary, film, and artistic circles, including Om Puri, Shaji M. Karun, MV Devan and John Abraham. A few more chapters were added for the second edition and on the day of its release on Sunday, ₹ 26,000 was raised through book sales.
Thanchachan Chetan was instrumental in raising more than 1 lakh “for the treatment of Kerala Academy Award winning writer Thomas Joseph”. So when he fell ill himself, we thought of returning that favor.
