Constituency Watch: Thiru V. Of. City | Voters struggling with loss of livelihood

The relentless price rise in this constituency of lower-middle class families is talking

Thiru. Vi. Of. The city assembly constituency is a classic case of an area that is caught between the poor north of the city and the prosperous central district.

Whenever it comes to expressing views on rising prices of fuel and essential commodities, nowhere is this voice of voice. Voters who have to deal with many issues are deeply disappointed. And the COVID-19 epidemic has only fueled the fire.

He said, “We do not want freebies that political parties are promising voters.” Instead, we want them to end the increase in prices of fuel and essential commodities. I pay an exorbitant amount to buy anything from oil to LPG cylinders, but when I sell it to people I cannot raise the price of tea or breakfast. How can we survive this way, ”said B, who drives a small eater in Pulkanthope. Asks Venkatesh.

Thiru, with an electoral college of 2.2 lakh people. Vi. Of. The city constituency, which was formed after the delimitation exercise, includes areas such as Pulianthope, Oteri, Pattalam, Anyavaram and parts of Perambur. Lower middle class families are prominent in the constituency.

Epidemic effect

Abdul Khader, who runs a shop in Petalam, says that after the COVID-19 hit, many have become unemployed and the government should look into ways of generating employment.

The Oteri drain, which is believed to carry floodwater to the Buckingham Canal, has not been desolated, and people dump garbage along its banks.

Vidya B, a long-time resident of Oteri, says the risk of mosquitoes has worsened.

“All sub-lanes flood every monsoon. In my house, we always pack the monsoon stuff as a hit, because we know that rain water will enter the house. They must often descend to the side of the canal, which they barely do.

Residents say some roads were laid out as soon as possible before the recent election. But some sections are still in poor condition.

Ammaiah Ammal Street is a case in point. Riding through it is a nightmare for people like Ann Rathi. And that is not all.

“Sewage is often mixed with drinking water and we have to complain every now and then. We are fed up, ”she says.

After delimitation, voters voted for AIADMK in 2011. Nilakandan was chosen and in 2016 he returned to the DMK’s Tyagamam poet.

Mr. Kavi is seeking re-election.

As if under pressure from the strong discontent, the AIADMK has given a seat to the Tamil Manila Congress, which is fielding local resident PL Kalyani.

Mr. Kavi says that some roads have not yet been constructed as the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) is yet to complete its work.

Ms. Kalyani says, “I have been a resident of the area for years and I know what the issues are. If selected, I will first rectify sewage overflow issues and replace pipelines and guarantee clean drinking water. ”
