A 55-year-old mentally ill woman was rescued by a police inspector who was trapped in a slush in the Adyar river near Saidapet on Saturday morning.
Inspector Pugazhendhi was heading towards Panagal Maligai around 2.30 am Saturday when he found a woman in Adyar struggling to come out of the slash. He alerted the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services and went down to take them out. As the woman was caught in the herd, she also struggled to breathe. The inspector descended into the river and took him out with the help of some wood and tiles. During interrogation, it was found that she was mentally ill and a resident of Guindy. His son Anandan was told about the rescue and took him to his home. Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Vikraman praised the inspector.
