Arsenal owner Mikel Arteta left captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the bench on Sunday due to a violation of Tottenham’s discipline in North London. Arteta said the issue was subject to an internal process in which not much information was given about what Gabon had done internationally. “He was going to start the game, we had a disciplinary issue, we draw the line and we move on,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “He is on the bench.” After a slow start to the season, Aubameyang scored six goals in his last seven games.
His absence from the start is a major setback for Arsenal as they aim to secure a five-game win against Tottenham and maintain their slim expectations from the top four in the Premier League.

“We keep internally,” Arteta quipped on the nature of the disciplinary violation. “We have a process that we have to respect for every sport. It is a decision to evaluate who is and who is and what it is, after evaluating everything.
“We have other players who are ready to play and deserve the chance. I’m comfortable with that.”
