GVMC elections: Left parties maintain wards

Gangarao of CPI (M) and Stalin Ward of CPI won from Nos. 78 and 72 respectively

Both the CPI (M) and the CPI have successfully retained the wards they had won in the last election in the GVMC elections in 2007.

The CPI (M) ‘s Gangarao won from Ward 78, which is located in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Township, and AJ Stalin won from Ward 72 in the Gajuwaka region.

Both Gangarao and Stalin also won in 2007 and in this election they defeated the YSR Congress Party with a good margin.

As part of an understanding, the TDP did not field candidates in both wards.

Both wards are located in industrial areas and close to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

The VSP’s privatization issue seems to have helped them win.

Speaking to Hindu, Mr. Gangarao said that the VSP staff had revoked confidence in him and the CPI (M) and would use the platform of the GVMC Council to address their concerns.

Mr Stalin said the victory has inspired him and the CPI to take the fight against privatization of the VSP more strongly.

Out of a total of 98 wards, the CPI (M) contested in 19 wards and the CPI fielded its candidates in six wards.
