Rights activist Yogendra Yadav has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Assam government had planned to imprison farmer rights activist Akhil Gogoi during the assembly elections to keep the views of the public at bay.

“It is a misfortune of this country that people who should be in jail are roaming free while some who should be free are rotting in jails. Akhil Gogoi does not have a criminal trial, a political examination planned ahead to prevent people from being addressed during the election.

“His trial is also a trial of India’s judiciary,” he said, adding that he gave his moral support to Mr. Gogoi who has been in jail since December 2019 on various charges including treason and violence during the movement against citizenship (amendment). . ) Act.

Mr. Sunilam said that he was asked by Mr. Gogoi to give a message to the people of Assam – “Defeat BJP”.

He said that the Congress, which led Mahajot, should take the moral responsibility to “win the voice of the public” by not fielding candidates against the Razor Party and its ally, the regional party Assam Janata Parishad.
