Director SP Jananathan died in the city on Sunday morning. He was 61 years old and hospitalized a few days ago.

Mr. Jananathan was working after producing his upcoming film Labum Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan which was set for release soon.
Condolences have been posted on social media from members of the Tamil film fraternity. Cinematographer PC Sriram said on Twitter that Mr. Jananathan’s films will always be remembered as it reflects his faith in society. Actress Shruti Haasan, who acted in her upcoming film, thanked her for her intelligence and kind words. Director Mohan Raja said that the filmmakers were an inspiration to many including him.
