Here a group of COVID-19 cases have been identified at the Government Aided Girls Higher Secondary School in Ammapettai. Officials said a total of 56 people, 55 students and a teacher have tested positive and are undergoing treatment.
According to senior health officials, a student was suffering from fever and cold symptoms last week. She was tested for a viral infection, and the report indicated that she was positive.
Subsequently, two batches of COVID-19 tests were conducted for 1100 students and staff at the school. In the first batch, 20 individuals tested positive, and in the second batch, 36 tested positive, R. Raveendran, Deputy Health Director, Thanjavur, said.

A source at Thanjavur Medical College Hospital said that 56 patients have one teacher, while the remaining are 9th grade students.
Of these, 17 have been admitted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital and four to Thiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital. The rest is undergoing treatment in private hospitals of the district.
Dr. Ravindran said that an inquiry would be conducted to determine if there had been any lapse in adherence to safety protocols, including wearing masks at the school.
