In a large constituency spread over 34 assembly constituencies in 12 districts, a total of 5,05,565 voters will decide the electoral fate of 71 candidates.
More than 1.29 lakh voters in the old undivided Khammam district are expected to exercise their franchise in the high-profile Legislative Council elections in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda graduate constituency on Sunday.
In total, a large constituency spread over 34 assembly constituencies in 12 districts including Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem has a total of 5,05,565 voters in the fray out of which as many as 71 candidates will decide the electoral fate.
Sources said that the number of voters in the undergraduate constituency has increased slightly from 2.81 lakhs to more than 5.05 lakhs in the last MLC elections.
In the constituency, TRS’s current MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Congress Party’s S. Ramulu Naik, CPI-CPI (M )’s Jayasada Reddy, TJS’s M.C. Kodandaram, a deep electoral battle is being witnessed among a total of 71 BJP candidates. G Premendra Reddy, TIP’s Cheruku Sudhakar, YTP’s G Rani Rudrama and AAP’s N Tirumala Rao besides independent contestants including Kishore Mallanna.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of MLC elections at 127 polling stations in Khammam district and 62 in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district on Sunday.
In Khammam district, around 750 police personnel will monitor security arrangements to prevent untoward incidents. Mobile teams and flying squads have been formed as part of a comprehensive bandbust scheme.
Collector R.V. Karnan along with Additional Collector N Madhusudan visited the SR&BGNR Government Degree and Distribution Center at PG College here on Saturday.
He reviewed the process of distribution of polling materials, including jumbo-sized ballot paper and ballot boxes, to the election staff.
