Traditional rivals again take it to civil issues

DMK MLA SR Raja will contest for the fourth time against AIADMK’s TKM Chinai

In the Tambaram assembly constituency, the fight would be between traditional, long-time rivals belonging to the traditional Dravidian parties, the AIADMK and the DMK. The fight between these two candidates is essentially considered, although many more are in the fray. Incumbent MLA SR Raja of the DMK will lock horns, for the fourth time, along with former AIADMK minister and MLA TKM Chinnayya.

The constituency consists of the municipalities of Tambaram and Sembakkam; Chitalpakkam, Madambakkam, Perungalathur and Pirakankaranai Nagar Panchayats; And Mudichur, Agaramthen, Thiruvancheri and Madurapakkam gram panchayats.

While the residents of the constituency are happy with the progress of various infrastructure works, those falling under the Tambaram municipality complain about the delay in completion of the underground drainage system, which has been dragging on for over a decade. Some also stated that the road conditions in the municipality were poor due to the execution of drainage work.

Residents of Mudichur Panchayat acknowledge the failure of the state government to issue patta to the residents of Indira Nagar. The area developed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board has not been provided with the lease for more than 35 years. Former president of Mudichur Panchayat P.W. The officials of Damodaran and the Federation of Madichur Residents Welfare Association wanted the long pending extension of the Madichur Main Road to be relaxed for the addition of traffic arrangements. Drains to stop floods

Residents credited Mr. Raja with Sriperumbudur MP TR Balu for getting the third railway terminal in Tambaram city. He believes that the development of the third railway terminal has helped Tambaram to become a multi-model transport hub, leading to many local businesses.

Mr. Raja, who was successfully elected in 2006 and 2016 but lost to Mr. Chinnayya in 2011, said the successful completion of the integrated storm drainage project helped prevent floods in West Tambaram, Perungalathur and Pirakankaranai.

He said that funds were allocated for the construction of community halls in Mudichur, Madurapakkam, and Agaram villages. He has also accelerated education with the construction of public libraries in Tambaram, Chitalpakkam and Madambakkam. He said that funds had also been allocated to improve cremation at Pirakankaranai and Chitalpakkam and work had begun.

DMK candidate Mr. Raja cut his teeth in business before entering politics, he said that the development of Tambaram as a commercial hub led to encroachment, causing traffic bottlenecks in many areas. He also said that the widening of the Mudichur Main Road was long overdue and would be lifted if he is re-elected.

Residents of Chitalpakkam, who come under the Nagar Panchayat, said they are facing hardship due to poor supply of drinking water. They want Chitralapakkam to be merged with the Greater Chennai Corporation and include the area under the Tambaram-Pallavaram-Pammal water scheme to solve the problem.

Chittalakkam Muthulakshmi Nagar Welfare Association president L Sundaraman said that at present residents are provided with water from Palar, but the supply remains sluggish, especially during summer. Citing the drainage work in the Tambaram municipality, he wants a similar scheme to be built in Chitalpakkam, which became a popular residential area due to its proximity to the Sanatorium railway station.

Residents of East Tambaram in Rajamilpakkam, Madambakkam and Selaiyur have their own complaints, such as widening of the Rajakilpakkam Main Road towards Agaram, construction of a flyover to ease traffic at Kamarajapuram Junction, electrification of Madambakkam crematorium. Repair of several roads in Rajkilpakkam damaged in last year’s heavy rains.
