Bundesliga: Robert Lewandowski equals goal milestone as Bayern Munich power past warden Bremen

Bayern Munich scored a 3–1 win over Vader Bremen on Saturday, as Robert Lewandowski claimed another goalscoring milestone in the Bundesliga and hit woodwork three times in a dynamic performance. Bayern maintained their dominance in the final before hosting Lazio in the Champions League, taking a 4–1 lead on Wednesday in the second leg. Goals by Leon Gortzka and Serge Gnabry beat Beren 2–0, before Lewandowski scored his 32nd league goal this season. Bremen striker Nickelas Phulekrug came off the bench to score a late consolation goal. Bayern forward Thomas Mueller said, “We were new and more active. We had control over the game. We should have scored more goals”.

Despite hitting the post and clipping the crossbar, Lewandowski eventually scored an hour in Bundeliga’s 268 goalscalega goals going equal to former Skalake striker Claus Fisher.

Only Bayern veteran Gerd Mueller has scored more in Germany’s top flight with 365 in 427 league games.

Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka’s superb save prevented Lewandowski from scoring late with a powerful header.

The win increases Bayern’s lead to five points at the top of the table.

Second-placed RB Leipzig need to defeat Intrachat Frankfurt at home on Sunday to keep pace with the Bavarians.

Mueller was outstanding in Bremen as his fleet flick allowed Goretzka to score the opening goal from a corner on 22.

With a superb piece of skill, Muller then cleverly ditched the ball and rolled a pass into Gunabri’s way to score on 35 minutes.

It was 2–0 at the time of the break and Lewandowski scored twice as fast at the start of the second half.

Poll finally hit the scoresheet when he tapped home from close range before being handed his consolation by Bremen after a counter-attack.

Third-placed Wolfsburg placed another nail in the bottom coffin of Schalke which crashed to a 5–0 defeat at home.

Schalkred Mustafi, a former Arsenal defender from Schalke, took the lead in his own net in the first half.

Floodgate opened after the breakout when Wout Weghorst, Riddle Baku, Josep Bracallo and Maximilian Philippe all scored for Wolfsburg.

With nine games left, Schalke has only one mathematical chance to escape the first charge in 30 years.

With just one league win all season, they are 11 points off the bottom three with a dreadful goal difference of -50.

Mainz claimed a major victory in the reclamation fight when Swedish striker Robin Quisson scored six minutes from time in his 1-0 win over Freiburg.

Promoted

After an excellent save by Freijnburg goalkeeper Florian Müller at Moments’ loan on the loan, Quison tapped the winning goal from close range.

After their captain Christopher Trimmel became the winner in a 2–1 home win against Cologne, Union took a point from European places.
