The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge sheet against seven people, including the then acting engineer of the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), in an I Monetary Advisor (IMA) group Ponzi scam case.
The then executive engineer of BRDA is PD Kumar. IMA Group, its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohammad Mansoor Khan; And directors, Nizamuddin Ahmed, Wasim, Naved Ahmed and Nazir Hussain.
According to the agency, the directors of the IMA group paid a bribe of ₹ 5 crore, ₹ 1 crore, the ₹ 1.5 crore and ₹ 5 crore in four installments of ₹ 1 crore, during April-May, 2019 to the BDA officer.
It is alleged that the bribe was paid on the instructions of Mr. Khan, to ensure that the officials of the Department of Revenue in the Government of Karnataka submitted a closure report submitted by the Competent Authority and the then Assistant Commissioner, Bengaluru North Sub-Division. is accepted. The closure report was submitted to the Department of Revenue in April 2019.
The CBI has alleged in its charge sheet that Mr. Khan was awaiting the report to avoid legal proceedings. The accused contacted the executive engineer, who demanded ₹ 5 crore to get the work done.
“However, the said report was not accepted by the then Principal Secretary, Department of Revenue, and instead, it was sent to the Law Department for an opinion and, being not satisfied with the report, he sent it to the Director General of Police,” Karnataka, to investigate further in this matter, ”the agency said.
As the objective was not achieved, Mr. Khan and the directors pressured the accused BDA officer to refund the bribe amount. He allegedly paid ₹ 30 lakh and issued two checks of his savings account paid ₹ 2 crore and ₹ 2.5 crore as security till the balance was repaid. The CBI has recovered both checks.
“Several WhatsApp chats, GATE digital-access logs, various entries and statements of several witnesses have been collected between the said directors about the executive officer and the file movement,” the agency said.
The CBI has registered four cases related to the scam. Numerous charge sheets have been filed against those involved in defrauding large numbers of depositors on the promise of unprecedented returns.
