Two Bangladeshi nationals, who were treated at a psychiatric facility here, died on Friday. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka and Bangladesh Auxiliary High Commission first completed the formalities to facilitate their return.
Sameer Kumar Mazumdar and Sahastrar Begum underwent schizophrenia treatment at the Government-run Modern Psychiatric Hospital. Sameer was admitted to the hospital in 2014 and Sahastrar in 2008.
Indian and Bangladesh officials were present at the time of sending. Family members found Bangladeshi on the border.
The Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Mohammad Jobeyed Hossein, said that another 22 Bangladeshi men and women who entered India at different times were receiving treatment at a modern psychiatric hospital.
“The doctors told us that 12 of them had been recovered and could be brought back. 10 others need more time, ”said Mr. Hossein.
Officials said patients could not cross the border to reach various places in Tripura, giving an exact version of it. The detained persons were admitted to the hospital after their mental illness was confirmed.
In October 2019, a 28-year-old woman was brought back to Bangladesh after treatment at the same facility.
