Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday that the Congress had become a fixed deposit of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Mr. Vijayan was addressing a public meeting as part of his tour of Dharmadham constituency, from where he is again in the fray for the assembly elections. He was the state head of the BJP. Responding to a statement by Surendran that the party will rule in Kerala, even if it gets 35 seats.
’71 seats, not 35 ‘
A BJP leader has announced that his party needs only 35 seats to come to power, whereas the requirement is 71 seats. He said that such confidence is in Congress.
He said, “The BJP is being motivated by the belief that there is a fixed deposit in the Congress here. It is no surprise that the Congress people who won the elections have now joined the BJP, ”he said.
Mr. Vijayan said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also said that the party will not survive just because it won the election. It needed a good majority to stay in power.
He said that secularism in the country was in great danger. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had always tried to weaken the Constitution. Previously there was secrecy, but now it was done in public. Those who wanted secularism would support Kerala’s stance, he said, calling for an unequivocal approach against communalism.
