CSK stepped into the league preparations with Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni overtaking the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Dhoni was also seen stroking the nets inside Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, where players have started camping ahead of the IPL. CSK hopes that Dhoni’s return to the nets will be a fresh start for the team that failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time this season. Dhoni, however, made it clear in CSK’s last IPL 2020 match that he was “definitely not” in a yellow jersey.

CSK finished sixth in the IPL 2020 after winning six of their 14 games when the tournament was held in the UAE from September to November due to a coronavirus epidemic.
Despite returning to India this season, CSK, or any other team, will not have the privilege of playing at home as all the matches are scheduled at neutral places for the teams.
Six cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad – will host the tournament this year and the league starts on 9 April with defending champions Mumbai Indians in Chennai with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
CSK will start their campaign on 10 April when they run as runners-up from the Delhi Capital last season in Mumbai.

The playoffs and finals will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Dhoni, who is one of the most experienced players in the IPL and has led CSK in every season that the team has played, will feature in his IPL tally of 4632 runs in 204 matches.
