TN Assembly Election |  Dhinakaran to face the information minister in Kovilpatti

Dhinakaran released the second list of party candidates for 50 constituencies including his candidature.

TTV Dhinakaran, founder of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), will contest against Information Minister Kadambur C Raju in Kovilpatti assembly constituency in Thoothukudi district. DMK is yet to come up with the list of candidates. Mr. Dhinakaran in Chennai, Dr. Radhakrishnan is an MLA from Nagar constituency.

Mr. Dhinakaran on Thursday released the second list of party candidates for 50 constituencies including his constituency. The first list with 15 names came out on Wednesday. So far, the party has given tickets to five women candidates.

So far, the party entered into electoral agreements with six parties for 13 constituencies. The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) was given six seats – Alandur, Ambur, Tiruchi (West), Thiruvarur, Madurai (Central) and Paliyamkottai. Apart from allocating three seats for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), the AMMK gave one seat each to four other parties – Makkalarasu Kachi, Vidyutalai Tamil Puligal, Gokula Makkal Kachi and Marudhu Sena Sangam.

The AMMK leader said that he would contest from two constituencies, one of which would be from Theni district. In the second list, AMMK announced candidates for Bodinayakanur and Endipatti. This leaves only one constituency, Kumbum, left for him as Periyakulam which is a constituency reserved for the Scheduled Castes.

An important feature of the second list was the inclusion of AIADMK MLA MSR Rajavarman for Sattar who had joined the party earlier in the day. On Wednesday, the ruling party, releasing its list of candidates, did not spare Mr. Rajavarman, who was elected in the by-election from the same constituency in April-May 2019 on the AIADMK election mark.

According to the first list, the second list of AMMK included four more former MLAs, who were called by Speaker P.P. Dhanapal was disqualified in September 2017. They c.
