A group of around 600 party cadres demanded the replacement of Dharma Thangavel, who joined AIADMK in January
Dissatisfied with the announcement of Dharma Thangavel, a former Congressman who joined the AIADMK two months ago as the party’s candidate for the Alangudi assembly constituency, a group of AIADMKR staged a protest in Alangudi town and demanded his replacement demanded.
Mr. Thangavel, who was the South District President of Congress of Pudukottai, Chief Minister Edappadi K in January. After joining Palaniswami, he joined AIADMK.
A group of about 600 members of the AIADMK held party flags and took out a procession carrying pictures of Mr. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam from Santhapettai to the bus stand in Alaudi town, with slogans demanding the location of Mr. Thangavel. Only one person who worked hard for the party in Alangudi should be nominated as a candidate, he demanded.
Mr. Thangavel’s late father, Dharmaraja, was a member of the AIADMK and was the chairman of the Vadakadu Co-operative Society. His uncle Mr. Pushparaj was a two-time Congress MLA in Pudukottai district. A postgraduate in Information Technology, the 43-year-old is a native of Vadakadu village in Alangudi taluk in the district. This is the first time he is contesting the assembly elections.
