The Ministry of Health on Tuesday informed the Election Commission that “required filters” have been added to the Co-Win software in four states and one union territory, removing the photo from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s COVID-19 vaccine certificate in Assam. , Recipients in West Bengal, Tamil, Puducherry and Kerala.
On March 5, the Election Commission wrote a letter to the ministry to reiterate its standing instructions on the use of photographs of political leaders in government advertisements during elections. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to West Bengal Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain on Tuesday that “technical measures to follow ECI directives have been urgently explored.”
The Secretary wrote, “Therefore, the required filters at Co-Win, as suggested by the Commission, have been set up for vaccination centers located in four states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Union Territory of Puducherry.”
The issue was raised by the Election Commission following a complaint by the Trinamool Congress that the Prime Minister’s photo on the certificates, while the model code of conduct was in force for the ongoing elections, was in violation of Election Commission rules.
