If you have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone in your pocket, we’ve got some good news for you. The South Korean company has finally revealed when its Galaxy handsets will get the feature-packed One UI 4.0 operating system upgrade, which brings a swathe of new features to its smartphones, including the Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy S20.
One UI 4.0 is based on Google’s latest Android 12 upgrade and includes a refreshed new look, as well as many of the upgraded widgets and enhanced customisation that we’ve already seen from other Android 12-enabled devices, like the Pixel 6.
With a whole host of new Colour Palettes to choose from, you can alter the look and feel of everything from your home screen to icons, menu, button and background. For some added fun, there’s also a wider variety of emoji features, GIFs and stickers available.
The new One UI 4.0 OS also brings enhanced privacy and protection functions that make it easier for users to understand exactly how their data is used by developers. For example, a new indicator alerts show users when apps are accessing the camera or microphone. Simple settings then easily allow these permissions to be disabled.
Samsung also says that One UI 4 also expands on Android 12’s permission options, allowing users to view their permissions history from the last seven days, not just the last 24 hours.
If you’ve been desperately waiting for this update to arrive on your device then it seems there’s not too long left to wait.
Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S21 will begin receiving One UI 4 from today, November 15 with other devices following in the coming months. A full schedule was published online which revealed exactly when all of Samsung’s other phones are expected to get the changes. It’s since been removed meaning things may still be being finalised but if things don’t change then it seems owners of the Z Flip and older S20 will be next in line after the S21.
