This is the Mycle Classic – a very modern spin on the classic shopper bike. But don’t be fooled by the time-tested design, the step-through frame houses some clever new technology. Designed by electric bike firm Mycle, the new model combines a 250w motor with seven gears to provide a boost when you need it.
If you’d prefer to tackle the roads under your own steam, a push of a button switches from pedal-assist to manual riding. A built-in screen will display your latest statistics from the ride, including which of the five available power settings that you’re using at that time. Mycle also includes a USB port, so you can charge your smartphone while you’re out on a ride. That means you should never arrive at your destination without any less than 100% in the tank – even if you’re relying on your smartphone for turn-by-turn navigation.
The electric bike features a 9.6Ah lithium-ion cell that can offers up to 50km (roughly 30 miles) on a single charge. When you do run out of juice, you’ll need to remove the lockable seat post – that hides the location of the battery – and plug-in to recharge. Mycle claims that it’ll take just four hours to recharge that battery back to full capacity.
Aside from the clever modern fixtures and fittings – smartphone charges, LCD displays with statistics from your latest ride, battery-boosted top speeds of 15.5mph – the Mycle Classic doesn’t miss any of the trappings of the iconic shopper bike. As such, you’ll find a vintage style basket, rear pannier rack, kickstand, leather grips and an ergonomic shock-absorbing leather saddle.
The Mycle Classic is available for £999 at mycle.co.uk in three stylish colours, City White, Mustard Yellow and Hackney Blue.
With free standard delivery on all new bikes, the complete Mycle range is built and tested in the UK by trained Cytech bike technicians.
Speaking about the latest vintage-tinged launch to its electric bike portfolio, Michael Wooldridge from Mycle said “After the successful launch of the Mycle Compact, we’re excited to release the Mycle Classic, our fun reimagining of the classic retro shopper bike. Perfect for casual morning rides and picnics in the park, it continues our goal of making sustainable travel accessible and fun for everyone.”
