Twitter Inc will now allow people to tip their favorite content creators with bitcoin and will also launch a fund to pay some users who host audio chat rooms on its Spaces feature, the company said.
The company’s tipping feature – now called Tips – is rolling out to everyone with more payment options to choose from – including crypto. Users can drop links to their payment profiles in their bios and in their Tweets. Tips makes this easier to do, offering one fixed spot, right on their profile, where they can link to Cash App, Patreon, Venmo and other platforms for people to support them.
Coming to iPhones first
Twitter is rolling out to users on iOS first and then bring Tips to people on Android over the coming weeks.
How does it work?
Users will know that an account has turned on Tips if you see this icon next to the Follow button on the profile page. Tap the icon, and you’ll see a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled, and you can select whichever you prefer. The services available so far are:
* Bandcamp
* Cash App
* Chipper
* Patreon
* Razorpay
* Wealthsimple Cash
* Venmo
Twitter is adding some new services to the list: GoFundMe – an online fundraising platform – and PicPay – a Brazilian mobile payments platform.
Once the user taps the service he/she wants to use, they will be taken off Twitter to the selected app to send funds. Twitter says that its takes no cut from this.
