Assam MP sues NGO for illegal video

The clip of his election campaign speech was edited to make it appear that he made a communal rant.

Assam MP and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has threatened to sue a non-governmental organization for claiming in an allegedly derogatory video that it made anti-national statements.

“The video I received yesterday (Tuesday) was released by an NGO called LRO, which harms our Assam election prospects. The prevailing video states that the Mughals ruled India for 800 years and the British ruled for 200 years and now the Congress-AIUDF will make Assam an Islamic state. This is 100% fake video, ”Mr. Ajmal told reporters on Wednesday.

The Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) had tweeted: “On @ECISVEEP for immediate provocative remarks during a recent election rally and for checking the veracity of speech and action against AIADF Chief @BadruddinAjmal on @ECISVEEP Complaint was filed and gag order issued. ”

Mr. Ajmal said that he was in touch with his lawyers to register a case against the NGO. “Some elements with vested interests are trying to derail the Congress-AIUDF alliance,” he said.

He accused parts of a speech that he merged into the video to allay fears about the Congress-AIUDF alliance ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress and AIUDF are the main components of the grand alliance of eight parties formed with the aim of ousting the BJP from power in Assam.
