Google sold potato chips in Japan, here’s why – morningtidings

Google seems to have come with what can be termed completely new and offbeat strategy to promote its upcoming Pixel 6 series. According to a report in Android Authority, the company recently gave away 10,000 units of its potato chips in Japan as part of a promotion for Pixel 6 series smartphones. Pixel 6 series are the first smartphones from the company to come with its very own Tensor processors. Google CEO Sundar Pichai too spoke about the Tensor chips at the company’s recent earnings conference.
Google Japan has also launched a website and TV commercial (ad) to promote and sell these packet of chips that come in different colour schemes. The different coloured packets seem to signify the different colour variants of the Pixel 6 smartphones.
“Google’s new chip is finally here. We will deliver freshly made “chips” to the first 10,000 people,” says (translated from Japanese by Google Translate).
“Google’s new smartphone, the Google Pixel 6, due out this fall. Prior to the launch of Google’s first smartphone equipped with genuine chips, we have prepared “genuine chips” that allow you to experience its appeal as soon as possible,” adds the page.
The tech giant also posted a video about the campaign, which shows a girl eating Google potato chips just as you would use a smartphone, by holding it against a display, listening to music and charging it too. Take a look yourself.

This surely appears to be a creative way from Google to promote its smartphone. It reportedly has also gone quite well with consumers in Japan. It remains to be seen if the tech giant is as creative in promoting Pixel 6 series in other countries as well.
With its very own custom chips Google aims to take on Apple whose smartphones too are powered by its own A-series processors. Google has ditched Qualcomm chips for its smartphones the way Apple dumped Intel for its laptops in 2020.
