The ruling AIADMK on Wednesday finalized the distribution of constituencies to its two allies BJP and PMK and released its second list of candidates for 171 seats.
Minister Neelofar Kafeel (Vaniyambadi), s. Valarama-thi (Srirangam) and G. Baskaran (Sivaganga) and 44 sitting MLAs did not participate. There was no surprise on the distribution of constituencies and the selection of AIADMK candidates, except for a few omissions. The second list had 14 women and 28 candidates from the scheduled castes.

Later, the AIADMK announced that five constituencies – Perambur, Egmore, Kilvithinan – Kuppam, Kumbakonam and Madurai (middle) – were allotted to Perunthaliver Makkal Kachi, Tamil Nadu Makal Munnetra Kazhagam, Purchetti Bharatham, Mowendra Munnetra Kazhappuram Kajgam. Kazhagam respectively.
The five parties will contest the AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol.

Out of the 23 constituencies given to the PMK and 20 to the BJP, the ruling party contested with 11 members. Party veterans who were left out included S Semalai (Mettur) and STK Zakkaiyan (Kumbum). While Mettur was allotted the PMK, Kumbum went to Theni district unit secretary and former MP SPM Syed Khan of the ruling party.
The two prominent faces of the party in the southern districts – ministers KT Rajanthara Bhalaji and VV Rajan Chellappa – have been shifted from Sivakasi and Madurai (North) to Rajapalayam and Thirupparankundam. While Sivakasi has been given to party functionaries in Virudhunagar (West) Laxmi Ganesan, Madurai (North) has been allotted to BJP. PRG Arunkumar, who represents Coimbatore (North), is placed at Kavundampalayam and Amman of Coimbatore (South). Arjunan will now contest from Coimbatore (North). The BJP has been given Coimbatore (South).
In its entirety, 44 incumbent legislators have been removed. Karuna, Thimunun Ansari and U. Thaniyarasu, who were elected on the AIADMK symbol, are no longer with the party. His constituencies – Thiruvadanai, Nagapattinam and Kangeyam – have been given to key candidates from AIADMK. Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam, former minister of Perundurai, E. of Aranthangi. Rathinasapathy and A. of Kallakurichi seen as dissidents a few years ago.
Three persons seen as representatives of Mr. Panneerselvam in the steering committee – Ph. Manoj Pandian, JCD Prabhakar and K.K. Manikam – The party has candidates in Alangulam, Villivakkam and Sholavandan.
Later in the day, the AIADMK announced that four constituencies – Perambur, Egmore, Kilavithinakuppam and Kumbakonam – were allocated to Perunthaliver Makkal Katchi, Tamil Nadu Maga Munnetra
Kazgam, Puraichi Bharatam and Mowendar Munnetra Kazhagam. All four parties will contest the AIADMK’s symbol of “Do Patti”.
