Samsung's new foldable phones are waterproof but here's why you shouldn't take them to the beach or pool - Times of India

Samsung’s latest foldable phones–Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 –come with IPX8 water resistant rating which may protect your expensive phone if it is in contact with water. But don’t feel too confident about taking any of the new foldable phones inside the swimming pool or to the beach. This is because these devices have no resistance against dust. A wet device easily attracts dust and coarse particles. Without any dust resistance, these particles may either put scratches on the fragile flexible display or worst, some particles may enter the hinge mechanism of the foldable phones and create problems.
You should totally avoid going to the beach with the new foldable phones, as there’s no protection from either the salty water or sand particles. Another problem you may face is sand particles getting sandwiched in between the foldable display that may ruin the display or cause problems with the hinge mechanism.
Talking about the hinge, Samsung is using an enhanced Sweeper technology that helps in repelling dust and other particles from the hinge of the device. But there’s mention as to how effective it will be in removing stubborn sand particles or sticky dirt and grime that usually builds up in tropical regions of India.
Other than that, Samsung seems to have done its part to make the new foldable phones stronger and is using a Armor Aluminum frame along with using Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to protect the cover display.
