Facebook to make it easier for users to transfer data, two new options introduced – morningtidings

User data has always been a bit of sore point for Facebook. While the company has over the years given users the choice to transfer and download their data, it is now giving them two new third-party options. According to a blog post by Facebook, it’s easier for people to transfer a copy of their data from Facebook to other services.
Hadi Michel, product manager, Facebook, in the blog post said that, “To provide people with choice and control over their data, we’ve spent the last few months rebuilding our data portability tool from the ground up.”
Under the new user experience for transferring data, Michel said that it’s more simpler and intuitive. “People can now more easily see what destinations and what data types are supported and there’s greater transparency around the status of each transfer, including making it easier to retry certain transfers,” Michel explained.
Users will also have the option to simultaneously start multiple data transfers for one destination. In addition to this, there will be filters in place that allow people to more precisely select the data they want to transfer.
In terms of giving more options, Facebook users can transfer all their images to Photobucket. Facebook users have had the option to transfer their images to Google Photos, Dropbox and a few other third-party apps.
Also, Facebook users will have the option to transfer their events data to Google Calendar. “At Facebook, we plan to continue providing our users with secure data portability features they can trust. We’re also working with developers to expand the selection of data types and destinations we support,” Michel added.
