Apple Music's lossless and spatial audio features now available on Android phones - Times of India

Earlier this week Apple rolled out two new features — Lossless music support and Spatial Audio — to Apple Music. At the time, the Cupertino-based tech giant said that the features would also come to the Apple Music app on Android. Now, the features are being rolled out to Android users.
According to a report by 9to5Google, version 3.6 of the Apple Music app comes loaded with these features. The app update clearly states, “Apple Music adds a spatial listening experience on compatible devices, with thousands of tracks in Dolby Atmos available at launch.”
Further the update includes:

  • Lossless Audio, a new way to experience uncompromised sound, with bit-for-bit accuracy.
  • • Automatic Crossfade, a new way to listen that blends each song into the next for a seamless experience.
  • Search enhancements to library, which allow you to more easily find your favourite music with in-line search.

The morningtidings-GadgetsNow checked and verified that the update is now live on Android phones.
Lossless music includes the audio files that manage to keep the original data when a particular song was composed. A lot of the songs when compressed lose the ‘originality’ — something that Lossless audio files preserve. Apple uses ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to preserve every single bit of the original audio file. This means fans will be able to hear their favourite songs exactly the way the artists created them in the studio.
Spatial Audio, on the other hand, is an immersive sound technology that makes the experience more life-like and better. However, Spatial Audio on Android will work with phones that support Dolby Atmos.
