Police said the Taj Mahal complex in Agra was evacuated on the morning of March 4 following a bomb blast.
The caller, identified as Vimal Kumar Singh, has been detained for questioning in Firozabad, Agra’s Additional Director General of Police (ADG), a. Satish Ganesh said that Mr. Singh called the Uttar Pradesh Police’s 112 emergency response number. It was claimed at 9 am and that a bomb was placed inside the memorial, which is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and armed personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Police immediately informed CISF personnel, who asked visitors to vacate the premises of the iconic 17th-century memorial and began an investigation into the sabotage around 9:15 p.m.
Nothing suspicious was found during the check on the memorial, a CISF official in Delhi said.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that Mr. Singh is a resident of Patiali in Kasganj and was currently living in his maternal grandfather’s house in Okhara village in Narkhi area of Firozabad, ADG said.
“Prima facie it seems that [Singh] Is mentally unstable and probably subject to treatment. We are investigating why he made such a call. The Taj Mahal was reopened to visitors after about an hour and 45 minutes.
