Police said a Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) jawan was killed on Thursday when a Pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by Naxalites, fell in Dantewada district of the state.

The incident occurred around 1 pm near Pahurnar village under Gidam Police Station area when a joint team of the security force was patrolling to ensure security for the bridge construction work, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundararaj P. PTI.

He said that the personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CAF had launched a field-dominated operation from the Chhindnar police camp to provide security for the bridge construction on the Indravati River.

“While the patrol party was on the other side of the river, head constable Laxmikant Dwivedi, belonging to the 22nd battalion of the CAF, inadvertently stepped on the pressure IED connection near Pahunar, about 400 km from the capital Raipur, causing an explosion that severely hit him. Wounded from., “He said.

The IG said that he later succumbed. He said that Mr. Dwivedi was a native of neighboring Madhya Pradesh in Rewa district.
