Fire near COVID Care Center in Beed district of Maharashtra, no one was hurt
The fire broke out on Thursday near a COVID care center in Ambejogai tehsil of Maharashtra’s Beed district, however, it did not affect the facility and the patients were being treated there, an official said.

Former PM Manmohan Singh, wife take COVID-19 vaccine in AIIMS
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took his first dose of COVID-19 vaccination at AIIMS in New Delhi on Thursday.
Mr. Singh was accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur, who also took the vaccine shot.
He was given Kovaxin, India’s first indigenously developed vaccine by Bharat Biotech.
The 88-year-old Congress leader stayed at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after vaccinating for about half an hour. Sources close to him said that he was fine and returned home after that. – PTI

Senior citizens forced to wait for hours to get vaccinated
The cumbersome process of registration for a vaccine is the first obstacle to a long road to vaccination. The CoWIN portal or Arogya Setu app that seniors have to log on to schedule an appointment does not give a time slot, which results in them finding themselves waiting for five hours to get their first shot. The limited number of vaccine centers only aggravates the problem. Hospital staff say they are helpless because the glitches in the CoWIN portal are adding further delays.
To avoid long queues, senior citizens are rushing to hospitals early in the morning in the hope that they will quickly get their shot. However, more often than not, many people arriving at 10 am said they were able to get vaccinated and only leave the hospital until 3 am.
Maharashtra
Maharashtra reports 9,855 new COVID-19 cases, highest since October
A Health Department official said that 9,855 new COVID-19 cases have been registered in Maharashtra on Wednesday, the highest in the last four months, with 21,79,185 infections.
He said the death toll rose to 52,280 with 42 newcomers.
On October 17, the state had recorded 10,259 cases, after which the graph declined.
From Tuesday evening, 6,559 patients were discharged in hospitals, while the number of recovered patients was 20,43,349.
The official said that the recovery rate of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra is 93.77%, while the death rate is 2.40%. – PTI
