Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ‘Amrit Ka Mahotsav of Independence’ from Gujarat on March 12 to commemorate India’s 75 years of independence, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said.
The PM told reporters on Sunday, that the 21-day long ‘Dandi March’ from Sabarmati Ashram would be flagged off, which was the home of Mahatma Gandhi.
He said, “On completion of 75 years of independence, PM will start the ‘Amrit Mahotsav of Independence’ from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on March 12.”
Mahatma Gandhi led the Dandi March or Salt March in 1930 as a non-violent protest against the British salt monopoly from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi at Navsari.
It was held from March 12, 1930 to April 6, 1930.
Last week, the Center announced the formation of a high-powered national committee under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Modi to mark 75 years of the country’s independence.
Shri Modi said on Monday that the celebration of the completion of 75 years of India’s independence should reflect the spirit of the country’s independence movement and showcase its achievements to the world since 1947.
